Have you seen the new PBS campaign? Pretty genius. The Knitting Wars poster totally tricked my boyfriend a few weeks ago. I can't believe Discovery's Naked and Afraid wasn't a PBS lampoon, too. Check out their new on-air ads. Their "new" hit show Long Island Landscapers is below!
All of London (heck, all of the world) is still eagerly awaiting the royal baby which was due to be born last Saturday, July 13th. I've compiled the following list of royal baby facts so that when the most anticipated birth in 31 years (or 5 if you count the Jolie-Pitt twins) happens, we all will have even more to talk about.
Horse Guards Parade, London
The baby will be known as His or Her Royal Highness Prince or Princess of Cambridge. How many middle names do you think he/she will have? Prince William has 3. (US Magazine) The baby will be born third in line to the throne. And a billionaire. The Lindo Wing of St. Mary's Hospital, where Kate will deliver, is nicer than the nicest hotel I've ever stayed at. The price for a suite is anywhere between
£5,500 and £7,500. As soon as the baby is born, champagne is poured for the new parents to toast. How's that for service? (Guardian)
St. James Park, London
The Royal Mint has prepared 2,013 commemorative solid sterling silver
“good luck” pennies struck with the year of the baby’s birth as gifts
for the parents of children born the same day. The coin features a
shield of the Royal Arms, with the three lions, the Scottish lion and
the harp of Ireland. (Forbes)
As per tradition, the announcement of the baby is almost as complicated and delivering the baby. After the newest royal is born, an official notice confirming the gender, weight and time will be signed by the doctors. That notice will be brought to Buckingham Palace (on horseback? Those Brits!) and placed in a gold frame in the outdoor courtyard. While the world will know immediately the the little prince or princess is born, it could take up to 10 days for the name to be announced. (CNN) Once the birth is announced, Prince William and Kate's parents are expected to make a statement outside the hospital. That's why these folks have been camping outdoors for 3 weeks. Prince William was the first future monarch in history to be born in a hospital. And it was 1982! (DailyMail) Check your odds! Bookies have been placing bets on everything from the name, to the date, to who will be holding the baby when Kate and William leave the hospital. The odds favor Alexandra for a girl and George for a boy. Some people are betting on Kevin, but isn't that the name of the bird in Up? Sounds like an odd choice to me. Also, the odds of the baby having red hair is 4-1. (TIME)
In other news, I am very happy Kate is beginning to look like a normal human.
While I would NEVER swim in the water around Manhattan, I can easily be
convinced to swim while looking at the water around Manhattan. Brooklyn
Bridge Park now has a pool and a small beach area with real sand. Anyone can hang out at the beach and the bar,
but in order to swim, you have to pick up a ticket with a designated
time. So, if you're like me, the next Saturday afternoon you find yourself awkwardly
at a 45 degree angle under your window A/C unit trying to cool down, grab your wayfarers and
SPF and head out to Brooklyn. Enjoy!
Aaron Hernandez was charged with murder last week. According to my
limited knowledge of sports, Aaron is paid a lot of money to hit around a
ball. Not a large ball like in soccer or a really small ball like in
baseball or tennis or hockey, but a ball shaped like Arnold’s head. I
guess he’s also paid to catch. Maybe even kick if he’s the kicker. Is
he the kicker? Regardless, Aaron joins the many athletes who have been
charged with murder, so many so there is even a Wikipedia about them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_professional_sportspeople_convicted_of_crimes.
So this really isn’t a great thing for Aaron, the Patriots or
Boston. I mean look what a murder charge did to Ray Lewis’ career! Oh
wait. Nothing.
